Aromatherapy Essential Oils Used In The Household

Aromatherapy essential oils can be used in the home for general household cleaning and freshening. To clean and freshen your home using aromatherapy, you can create cleaning liquids using these aromatherapy essential oils.

Many aromatherapy essential oils have disinfectant properties and are a perfect solution for a natural cleaning alternative to other harsh cleaning properties.

Regular household cleaners contain harsh chemicals that can make you sick or even dizzy if inhaled.
These aromatherapy essential oils can be combined and used to make safe and all-natural cleaning agents. In addition to being a safer cleaning alternative, essential oils can create an invigorating and refreshing atmosphere in your home.

Here are some aromatherapy essential oils recipes you can use for cleaning and freshening your home.
  • Fragrant liquid potpourri. Liquid potpourri can be used to create a delightful home fragrance. To create liquid potpourri using aromatherapy essential oils, put your favorite essential oil fragrance into a liquid potpourri simmering pot. You can find these simmering pots in the air freshening section of any store. Let the mixture simmer until the tea light candle melts completely.

As an alternative method with the same results, you can put your favorite aromatherapy essential oil fragrance into a pot of water and let it simmer on the stovetop for a few hours. Another way to infuse your home with the scent of essential oils is to use a light bulb diffuser. Place a few drops into the diffuser, and then place the diffuser upright onto a lamp. Leave the lamp turned on and the smell of the essential oil will fill the air as the oil evaporates.
  • Bathroom freshener. Take your favorite aromatherapy essential oil fragrance and apply a few drops to the inside of your toilet paper roll. The essential oil should be applied to the cardboard so that the smell will freshen the bathroom.
  • All-purpose cleaner. You can make an all-natural cleaner by combining a blend of aromatherapy essential oils with anti-bacterial properties. Mix a few drops of tea tree oil and lavender essential oils with water in a spray bottle. Shake the mixture well to diffuse the oil into the water. Use this mixture as an all-purpose cleaner for hard surfaces in your home.
  • Floor cleaner. To clean tile and other hard surface floors combine 15 drops of orange essential oil, 8 drops of lemon essential oil, 1 gallon of hot water, and 2 tablespoons of liquid soap. Use this mixture to mop your floors.
  • Aromatherapy dryer sheets. Create your own aromatherapy dryer sheets by placing several drops of your favorite aromatherapy essential oil fragrance onto a towel. Place the towel in the dryer with your clothes. This will leave your clothes smelling fragrant and invigorating for the next time you wear them.
  • Air freshener. To create an aromatherapy air freshener, mix 1.5 ounces of distilled water, 1.5 ounces of vodka, and 30-40 drops of your favorite essential oil fragrance into a 4 ounce spray bottle. Shake the mixture each time before you use it. Spray your aromatherapy air freshener throughout the room (the vodka will help the scent linger for a longer period).

As an alternative to using just one aromatherapy essential oil, you can use a blend of several invigorating essential oils. Try using one of the following four blends of essential oils to create your air freshener:

20 drops lime
14 drops bergamot
4 drops ylang ylang
2 drops rose

15 drops clary sage
9 drops lemon
6 drops lavender

20 drops rosemary
8 drops grapefruit
4 drops peppermint
2 drops spearmint

15 drops bergamot
15 drops spearmint

  • Calming bed linen spray. In a 4-ounce spray bottle, mix 1.5 ounces of distilled water, 1.5 ounces of vodka, 10 drops of lavender oil, 10 drops of clary sage oil and 10 drops of bergamot oil. Mist this linen spray over your sheets for a relaxing and calming nights sleep.

As an alternative to the aromatherapy essential oil blend in this recipe, you can also use 30 drops of Roman chamomile oil or a mixture of 20 drops Roman chamomile and 15 drops bergamot for the same results.
  • Sensual bed linen spray. To create a sensual bed linen spray you can use a mixture of essential oils with aphrodisiac properties. In a 4-ounce bottle, mix 1.5 ounces of vodka, 1.5 ounces of distilled water and a blend of essential oils to create a sensual bed linen spray.

To create a romantic and sensual mood, use the following aromatherapy essential oil blends in your bed linen spray:

    15 drops of sandalwood
15 drops of grapefruit or bergamot
    2 drops of rose oil
    2 drops jasmine

    10 drops of sandalwood
    2 drops jasmine
    2 drops ylang ylang
    3 drops of ginger
    10 drops of bergamot
    3 drops lime

  • Carpet deodorizer. To create a natural carpet deodorizer, you can use a mixture of aromatherapy essential oils with antibacterial and disinfectant properties. You can create an aromatherapy carpet deodorizer by adding 10 drops tea tree oil, 10 drops lemon oil and 20 drops of lavender oil to a 16-ounce box of baking soda.

Make sure the aromatherapy essential oils are mixed well into the baking soda. Sprinkle the carpet deodorizer onto the carpet and let it sit for 20 minutes. Then vacuum your carpet. After you vacuum, your carpet and room will have a fragrant and fresh smell.
